ABOUT OUR FOUNDER AND DIRECTOR

 

Tanya Heasley is a Coaching Psychologist specialising in Anger Management and Positive Psychology Coaching. She has an extensive background in counselling, as well as coaching, and therefore is considered an Integrative Coach-Therapist. She uses an transformative and intuitive approach that’s both supportive and challenging to bring about the necessary changes to empower self-development, confidence and growth.

My passion is to improve the lives of young people affected by anger. As well as help parents and teachers maximise their personal and professional success and prosperity so that ALL can thrive and flourish in every area of their life. I want to help young people and the adults who have a direct influence in their lives, to use their emotions better, to gain a better understanding of who they are, develop their effective communication skills, and strengthen their abilities. I believe everyone's native self (their true inner being) has the capacity and willingness to function as the driving force to achieving their hopes, dreams and aspirations. That said, certain blockages throughout life has quashed the liberation of their native self and it’s my mission to unlock their potential, to help them grow and become the best that they can be.

 

Why do I coach? Because I believe everyone is important - regardless of their gender, age, race, or social status and this importance includes you. I am full of love and see potential in everyone; even those who seem to struggle in life. I believe we can all contribute positively to mankind in some way, and we all have the right to live in peace and prosperity. However, it saddens me to think there are people in the world who may never thrive or prosper due to the country in which they live, or because of they were born into a dysfunctional family. Nevertheless, I choose to coach people in the hope that they would become peace-makers, or positive influencers or creative innovators, better versions of themselves who could potentially change their world to be an even better place to live in.

 

I coach because I’m a pioneer, a visionary and a forward thinker: coaching explores goals and ambitions, as well as developing skills and abilities, and boosting performance. Coaching is about moving forward and dealing with issues and challenges before they become major problems.

 

How did I get into coaching? I have had a truly purposeful life that I believe has equipped me in becoming a successful integrative coach/therapist. Let’s just say I had a difficult childhood and I lived my teenage years in a domestic violent household with a narcissistic parent. I wasn't allowed to cry or have emotions and so I learnt from a young age to stuff my feelings, especially anger as there was too much anger in the house anyway. Because of suppressing my emotions, I had fundamentally become emotionally numb and this eventually developed into depression: I had felt desperately alone, disconnected from the world and worthless as a human being. I did not want others to feel this way too and therefore I had decided I wanted to work within mental health. Fortunately, during my childhood and teen years, I had learnt to build up resilience, and so, digging into those reserves allowed me to train as a counsellor and study Psychology at university.

 

Soon after becoming a counsellor, I extended my training to specialise in anger management and worked mainly with people with anger issues. To keep up to date within the mental health profession, to improve my practice and to increase my knowledge and skillset, I actively continual my professional development, this includes; Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), Humanistic Counselling, Stress Management and Life Coaching. I’ve combined all this training with my own personal experience and developed an evidence-based psychoeducational anger management programme which alleviates and ameliorates anger and promotes personal development.

 

I am comforted in knowing that what I had been through growing up was not in vain but part of my journey and purpose in helping others.

 

My main values, beliefs and philosophies.

 

Honesty

I tend to speak the truth. Some people can’t handle the truth, even though the truth could set them free. For me, I need honest people in my life so that I know where I stand with them, so I can grow and develop. Even when they say hurtful things to me, I value their honesty and feel closer to them. However, I find fake people uncomfortable to be around and it triggers my insecurities because I start to question their authenticity and our relationship.

 

Native Self

We are all unique, therefore, we all have differences: different opinions, values, beliefs and philosophies. Some are similar, some may overlap, some are identical, but not one person will have the exact same opinions, values, beliefs or philosophies as another. Your native self will be different to someone else’s native self – meaning, what you want to do, how you behave and who you are may offend or influence another. Keep you integrity and refine your native self, rather than change it to suit others.

 

Higher being

I am very spiritual, and a practicing born again Christian with an authentic relationship with Jesus. I am a work in progress and don’t always follow His teachings or get them right, but I know I am loved, and I believe in the power of the Holy Spirit. This may put some people off from working with me, and I appreciate and respect that. I think it’s right and important to disclaim this, as this is a great part of who I am, and my honesty and transparency urges me to share this. I would also like to exclaim that my faith will not be part of or involve working with others (unless specifically requested by you).

 

Love

“How do you spell love?” Piglet. “You don’t spell it, you feel it?” Pooh. It’s hard to truly hate someone, when you truly love them. Don’t confuse hurt, sadness or anger with hate. You can feel all these emotions and still love. When you truly have love within, you stop seeing the negative actions of another and start seeing the person within. This starts with loving and nurturing your native self. "It’s not selfish to want to love and nurture yourself, it’s a basic instinct and a need for survival."

I have been married to John for 24 years and we have four children together; Morgan 23, Mason 21, Turaya 12 and Vitoria 10. I'm also a qualified hairdresser, a professional artist and I facilitate a craft group for ladies within my community. I also run my own jewellery making business called Momatuvi, do have a little look in my shop.
